01 Apr College Awaits!
One’s senior year of high school is always full of many mixed emotions as it is both an exciting and nerve-wracking time. The simultaneous excitement and anxiousness that seniors feel derives from the same source: college. Selecting, applying, and choosing a college is a very long and daunting process as students are required to schedule visits and tours, complete applications, write the notorious ‘college essay,’ and choose a major. At the same time, college brings about feelings of opportunity and freedom.
Hope Alumni, Zahir F., is one senior who is nervously and excitedly anticipating college this upcoming fall. Currently, Zahir attends Neumann Goretti High School where he has worked incredibly hard to consistently obtain good marks on his report cards. During his four years of high school, Zahir regularly visited with Hope’s Graduate Support Team where he sought homework and college application assistance while continuously maturing into the successful young man that he has become. It was not uncommon for Zahir to spend four hours at a time in the Graduate Support Lounge completing homework – talk about dedication!
Zahir’s commitment to his schoolwork has not gone unnoticed, as has been accepted to Temple, Drexel, West Chester, and LaSalle! More impressively, he received an academic scholarship to LaSalle. Now, he faces the final step in the college process – making his choice on which offer to accept.
Zahir had this to say about his superb list of college acceptances: “The Graduate Support team is a huge help; they are like my extended family. GSP has helped me in many ways, but the most important is that GSP helps me to believe in myself. I know that I can do great things one day, I know that I can go to college and be a success! I will be the first member of my family to attend college, and that is a big deal. Through higher education, I want to give back to my community.”
Major congratulations are due for Zahir! Whichever college Zahir decides to attend will be lucky to have him. The Hope Family is always rooting for Zahir, rooting for all of its graduates, and we are excited to see where his journey continues to take him.
